CELEBRATING GOD’S FAITHFULNESS

As the year comes to a close, we can look back on the year we’ve just finished, and we can be thankful. We can be thankful that it’s over, but we can also be thankful for all the great things that happened over that year. We can think about the good times God gave us, and we can think about the bad times when he carried us through. As we think through all these things, we can praise God and thank him for his goodness.

For some of you, this year was the best year yet. Everything was awesome, beginning to end, except maybe the homework. Your family’s doing great. You have great friends by your side. You learned a lot, and you have much to be thankful for. Praise God for his blessings, and praise him for giving you such a good year.

I’m sure there are some who didn’t have such a good year. Maybe it was tough academically. Maybe it was tough at home. Maybe the one thing you’re most thankful for is that this year is finally over. Whatever hardships you may have faced, God was with you, just as he was with the Israelites when they were in Egypt. He never forgot about you, and as tough as things were, he got you here, to the end of another year and the start of a new one.

Through good and through bad, God has been with all of us this year. God has given us blessings, and he has given us comfort. He’s given us new friends, and he’s taught us new things. God will be with us over the holidays, and he will be with us in the new year.
Let’s be thankful that God has seen us through another year filled with his goodness and his blessings. Praise God for the end of school, and praise him for the holidays ahead!

Our Bible verse for this week is,

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” -Psalm 77:11-12

HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY EVERYONE!!

THE STARS OF CHRISTMAS
11/12/16
The King Sings
King Herod really didn’t get it! Here was Jesus, God’s very own Son, and King Herod wanted to kill Him. He didn’t want anything to do with Jesus. Today, there are people who don’t want to make Jesus the king of their lives. Like King Herod, many people today want to sit on the throne and be the ruler of their own lives. They want to do whatever they want, whenever they want. They don’t want to answer to anyone!
Jesus deserves to be the king of our lives because He loves us more than anyone on this planet. Jesus created the universe and everything in it. Jesus created you and calls you His masterpiece. Jesus knew you would sometimes do really bad things—but loved you anyway. Then, Jesus decided to take the punishment you deserved for all those bad things. Rather than a golden crown, Jesus chose a crown of thorns FOR YOU. That’s what makes Jesus different. He is the perfect king, and if we follow Him, He will make our lives extraordinary. You can trust that if you make Jesus your #1 priority, He will never disappoint you!

Our Bible memory verse for this week is,
Philippians 2:10-11
At the name of Jesus every knee should bow . . . and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

THE STARS OF CHRISTMAS
27/11/16
The Wise Guys
. . . and so another episode of The Stars of Christmas! We’ve been having an extraordinary time looking at the people who starred in the actual Christmas story. Each week we are learning that Jesus is the true Star of Christmas and following Him leads to an extraordinary life. This week we learnt how to have extraordinary joy this Christmas. This joy comes from giving instead of receiving. The Wise Men back in Jesus’ time knew this—but, then, they weren’t called the Wise Men for nothing!
The Wise Men gave gifts to Jesus because they loved Him and wanted to worship and honour Him. It brought them extraordinary joy to give.
Some things are really easy to give, and some things are really hard to give. God will always help us give to others. He will give us strength to give even when it’s really hard. This week, we can give to our friends, our family, and even our neighbours. Don’t forget that giving to others brings extraordinary joy.

Our Bible memory verse for this week is,
Acts 20:35
You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’

THE STARS OF CHRISTMAS
13/11/16
Mary Ordinary
Come and discover the one true ‘Star’ of Christmas, Jesus, and how following Him leads to an extraordinary life. Each week, we will be part of the Star of Christmas Award ceremony and meet the week’s ‘competitor’.
Today we discovered how God made Mary’s life extraordinary.  Even though we may be ordinary, God can make something extraordinary out of our lives as well. For that to happen, we need to learn to be more like Mary—humble and willing. When we put our trust in Jesus, He will give us the power to do extraordinary things for God.

Our Bible memory verse for this week is,
“I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”  Philippians 4:13

How can I be bully-proof?
‘The Dark’ is using Captain Barrett to destroy relationships among the Starship Alpha crew. However, Captain Ryan decided to show kindness to Captain Barrett and concentrate on fighting the real enemy, The Dark.
Captain Ryan realizes that it is better to care about what God thinks of us rather than what people think of us and stops the deactivation process of Ziggy. Meanwhile, Ziggy discovers that the energy shield can protect them from attack. Captain Ryan helps Captain Barrett see that we must stand up against those that want to bully us.

Paul encourages the Christians in Corinth – although he’s been beaten he’s not crushed; he’s had pain, but he’s not destroyed. He reminds them that the situations they are in don’t have to change who they are on the inside.

When we choose to follow Jesus, when we become Forever Friends with God, we become part of God’s family and God is always there for us. When we really believe what God thinks of us it is like an energy shield around us, helping us to become Bully-proof!

Paul talked about the time Ananias came to help him. Although he was afraid at first, Ananias realized that God was with him and he didn’t have to be afraid. Just like Ananias who brought healing to Saul’s heart, all of us who follow Jesus carry the power of His love.

Oh dear! What will happen to Ziggy, the class 9 android. Will she be deactivated? She has disobeyed Captain Ryan’s orders because she believed he was wrong to not get help for Major Tom. Captain Ryan is allowing himself to be bullied into fighting The Dark rather than caring for his crew – he is becoming a bully himself.

We then turned to the Bible and heard about the time Paul started to become a bully. He stood by and watched as people threw stones and killed Stephen because Stephen was telling them about Jesus. From then on Paul started having Christians thrown into jail.

Today we started our new series, Starship Alpha. In today’s episode Captain Riley came face to face with a guy who used to bully him as a kid. We also heard about Paul, who used to bully Christians. (You can read about him in the book of ACTS)
During this series, we’ll explore what God has to say about how to deal with bullying. This week we focused on making sure none of us are the bully. How can we know if WE are the ones being the bully? We can pray, asking God to show us any bullying behaviours or attitudes we might have. Remember, bullying can be hurting another person’s feelings not just their body.
The Bible says that to follow Jesus means to follow His example. This requires us to love others, and not be mean to them.

Our Bible memory verse for this week is,
Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you…

28/8/16
When God made you, he made you in his image, placing his character traits in you.  He made all of you for a reason. God put some of his character traits in you so that you can show the world what he is like.
Today we learnt that God put his leadership, his strength and courage inside of boys. But of course, that doesn’t mean that girls can’t have these, too – it’s just that today we were talking about the boys.
Boys – God wants you to use the leadership, courage and strength he has given you to place the attention on God and not yourselves. And girls, you need to appreciate the way God made boys because he created both of you in his image.

Our Bible memory verse for this week is,
1 Timothy 4:12 Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers…

21/8/16
Today we learnt that the Y in PRAY stands for YIELD (give way, or surrender).
When we pray we need to realize that God knows best and although we may ask him for something, we need to YIELD, or surrender, what we want to what he wants.
Even Jesus did that. On the night before he was nailed to the cross, he asked God to take away the suffering he was going to face, but then he said, ‘not what I want, but what you want, Father’.

It’s not always easy to YIELD to what God wants, but he will give us the strength to do it – we just have to ask!

Our Bible memory verse for this week is,
1 Peter 4:19 … trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.

14/8/16
In Junior edge we have been learning about PRAYER. The letters in the word P.R.A.Y. can teach us how to pray.
When we PRAY we start with PRAISE so that we appreciate how great and amazing our God is. We also need to REPENT. We need to tell God we are sorry for disobeying him, ask for his forgiveness, and ask for his help not to do that thing again. That way our friendship with God becomes stronger.
God also wants us to ASK him for things we need and want, but it is even more important to ASK God what he wants for our lives. Asking Him what He wants for you makes your heart grow closer to God. Asking Him what He wants for you shows God you love Him and want to obey Him.

Our Bible memory verse for this week is,
1 John 5:14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
