30/11/14
Today was our last day of 'A Candy Cane Christmas'. We learnt that the red stripes of the candy cane remind us of the blood Jesus shed when he died on the cross. Jesus died on the cross so that our sins - the things we've done wrong - can be forgiven. God loves us so much that he gave his Son, Jesus, to take the punishment we deserve, so that we can be friends forever with him.
If we put two candy canes together, they will form a heart - a reminder of God's amazing love!
BIBLE VERSE TO LEARN AND REMEMBER
But God showed how much he loved us by having Christ die for us, even though we were sinful. Romans 5:8

The candy cane is the shape of a shepherd's crook.
When God sent his Son to this earth as a baby, whom did he invite to see him? A king? A president? Some famous person? NO! Just a few shepherds they weren't educated men, they weren't rich, and they certainly weren't famous. They were simply a group of men who looked after sheep. They were poor and probably dirty and a bit smelly.
So why would God choose them to be his Son's first visitors?
To show us that Jesus came for everyone. He didn't come just for the rich, the famous, or the powerful. He came for shepherds, tax collectors, for the poor, for the sick and for the lonely.
As followers of Jesus we need to tell everyone about Jesus - our friends, our classmates, even people we don't like very much or who are mean to us.

Today we started our new series, 'A Candy Cane Christmas'. Around Christmas time we can see candy canes in the shops, hanging on the tree, on a bowl on the table. But what do they have to do with Christmas?
If we turn the candy cane upside down, we have the letter 'J'. J is for Jesus, the reason we celebrate Christmas.
When Joseph heard that Mary was to have a baby, he didn't know what to do - until an angel came to him in a dream. The angel told him that the baby Mary was going to have was very special. It was going to be a boy and he was to call him JESUS because he would save his people from their sins.

It was so good to
see everyone back after the holidays! What a great start to the term! We welcome
Alison, Moses, Tim S and Deb to Junior edge – they will be taking our small
groups. Bec H is helping out with Kool Kids this term, so a BIG welcome to her
as well.
In Junior edge
today we heard about the difference between sheep and goats and that goats are greedy
and selfish.
As Forever Friends
of Jesus we need to allow God to change us so that we are no longer selfish,
but we are loving and caring towards others. When we show love and care to
others it is like showing love and care to Jesus himself.
As we help raise
money for Bibles for China, let’s remember we are doing it for Jesus!

Our Bible verse to learn and remember:
Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how
unimportant they seemed, you did it for me. Matthew 25:40
